Lent Day 9
Proverbs 16:3
Commit to the Lord
whatever you do,
and he will establish
your plans.
Have you
ever tried to do something and felt like you couldn’t make any progress because
you were battling yourself? The harder
you tried the worse things got.
Yesterday was that day for me. I
was trying to write and the harder I tried, the more I thought of what to say,
the more confused and distracted I got. For Lent this year I wanted to write
something for the Lord each weekday. I’m
barely into the Lent season and it was getting harder and harder each day. Then
yesterday the Lord showed me why I was having such a hard time through Proverbs
16:3. He showed me I forgot an important step I needed to take in order to
succeed. I forgot to commit my work to the Lord. My bible study notes speak
about ways we fail to commit our work to the Lord.
We commit
our work only superficially
We say our
work is for the Lord but it is really for ourselves
We give
temporary control to God only to take it back if things start going a different
way than what we expected
We commit
our work fully to the Lord, but put no effort into the work then wonder why
things aren’t working out.
Or we start
something, thinking it is a good thing but never commit it to the Lord. That’s what I was doing. I thought it would be good and pleasing to
write for the Lord. It was my commitment to Him through the season of Lent, but
I forgot to commit the work of the writing to Him and I quickly began to
fail. Then He lead me to Proverbs 16:3.
He did not reprimand me for going out on my own, but instead lovingly came
beside me and said, “let’s do this together.
Commit your work to me, trust me to help you, allow me into your work
and I will be steadfast and faithful in establishing your plans.” Isn’t that just like God? I am struggling to do something for Him and
He stops me and says “I want do this with you”.
Today I am
filled with peace and love. Peace from
my frustrations of yesterday and love knowing God only wants what is best for
me and will always lead me in that direction.
Are you working on something that just isn’t
coming together? Check your heart and
your purpose. What really lies
underneath your motivation? Stop and
commit it to the Lord and watch where He leads you.
Grace and
Peace,
LeAnn
